Alation Named a Winner for Data Cataloging in Dresner Advisory Services 2017 Technology Innovation Awards – Alation

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Jan. 3, 2018 Alation Inc., the collaborative data company, today announced it has won a Dresner Advisory Services’ 2017 Technology Innovation Award in the Data Catalog category. The annual award program honors the highest-ranked vendors in Dresner’s 2017 Wisdom of Crowds® series of thematic market studies, for which Alation earned the top ranking in the inaugural Data Catalog Market study earlier this year.

“This award is excellent recognition for the Alation data catalog’s ability to drive more productive, collaborative analytics,” said Satyen Sangani, co-founder and CEO, Alation. “A collaborative, curated data catalog has become a must-have for analytics organizations and a strategic solution for chief data officers looking to transform data into financial impact.”

As organizations increasingly seek to build data-centric environments, the ability to simply find, understand and trust the information they need remains a significant barrier to decision-making. Alation’s data catalog tackles this by using AI to automatically index all of an organization’s data assets, helping users easily find and understand relevant datasets. With built-in collaboration features, Alation captures crowdsourced information to provide context around the data — such as why it was created, how it has been used and who used it — to generate more accurate insights.

“Our Technology Innovation Awards honor the most dynamic solutions in critical areas related to BI and analytics, and we have seen recent strong attention on the data cataloging market among data-driven enterprises,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer, Dresner Advisory Services. “We congratulate Alation on its leadership this year in this category.”

The Data Catalog category of the Technology Innovation Awards honors technologies that focus on the user requirements to locate and leverage metadata, data, models and data elements within an organization. Dresner’s Wisdom of Crowds thematic market studies, which determine the award winners, are based on data collected from end users and provide a real-world perspective on various technical capabilities related to the BI and analytics markets, an area in which Alation has shown strong momentum.

The company has made a number of notable strides and announcements in recent months. Notably, Alation announced a new integration with Salesforce Einstein Analytics to bring the collaborative power of data cataloging to Salesforce users. The company also released Alation 5.0 to support chief data officers looking to value data through Infonomics; announced deeper support for cataloging data lakes in the cloud and on-premises; and expanded its integrations with Tableau and Paxata to deliver more value to joint customers.
