Convoy Pan Asian Cultural and Business Innovation District. – NBC 7 San Diego

Many know the area in Kearny Mesa along Convoy Street as the Convoy District.

In the 1990s, the city saw the rise of Pan-Asian businesses and cultural impacts along the street. Now, San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate want to have the location officially recognized as the Convoy Pan Asian Cultural and Organization Innovation District.

Cate stated at a news conference on Tuesday that he thinks the proposed renaming would benefit the area.

“This classification will allow the Convoy District to additional brand itself as a cultural and downtown, which will help support the efforts on the part of numerous companies and organizations to transform the Convoy area into a vibrant cultural center, dining location and innovative financial hub,” Cate said.

The location on Convoy Street would be framed to the west by Interstate 805, to the north by state Path 52, to the east by state Route 163, and to the south where Convoy Street ends up being Linda Vista Roadway.

The classification will also permit the neighborhood to deal with Caltrans and possibly get freeway indications that direct chauffeurs to the location.

The proposal will be considered by the San Diego City board later this month.
