Biodegradable nonwovens for a clean environment

The pollution of the environment by plastics is among the most immediate problems of our time, Lenzing states. Every day, millions of health products and wipes around the globe end up in trash and sewage. Many of them consist of approximately 80 percent polyester or other fossil, non-biodegradable materials and for that reason pollute the environment, it includes. With the Lenzing Web Innovation, Lenzing has established a trademarked technology to counter this issue: Sustainable and eco-friendly nonwovens are produced from the sustainable raw material wood.

These are not just plastic-free, they likewise score points for their especially high ecological friendliness, Lenzing explain. “Thanks to a special self-bonding system, in which the filaments bond with each other during the spinning process, binders, which are discovered in numerous nonwovens, are no longer needed. As a result, the nonwovens produced with Lenzing Web Technology are 100% naturally degradable and do not pollute either people or the environment,” says Gert Kroner, Vice President Global Research Study & & Advancement of the Lenzing Group.

The Austrian State Reward for Innovation is awarded each year by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs to the most ingenious Austrian business. In 2020, the competition took place for the 40th time.
