Statistics Month highlights data innovation

ILOILO City, Oct. 7 (PIA6) — The importance of data innovation in coming up with quality statistics that will serve as sound bases for reliable decisions and effective policies geared towards improving lives of the Filipinos is given emphasis in the 30th National Statistics Month celebration this October.

Carrying the theme “Data Innovation: Key to a Better Nation”, the month-long celebration will be opened in Western Visayas by government agencies, local government units, non-government organizations and state universities and colleges who are members of the Regional Statistics Committee VI with a motorcade on October 8, which will start at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand going to SM City Iloilo for the opening ceremony.

The public is also invited to take part in the statistical exhibit to be mounted by 15 agencies which will be opened after the program. The exhibit will run until October 25.

More activities were organized by RSC VI, primarily intended to promote awareness and appreciation of the importance of statistics among students.

The Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. will hold its educational board game called EcStatistakes on October 9 at the Training Rooms 1 to 3 of GCE Building, UP Visayas, Iloilo City Campus.

A Poster Making Contest will take place at SM City Iloilo Northwing Activity Center on October 23. This is open to students aged 8 to 12 years old. Registration is ongoing. Interested schools may email at [email protected] or call (033) 335-0907/0316 for further information.

The Commission on Higher Education 6 held its Statistical Analysis Contest for college students who are taking Math, Statistics, and Engineering courses on October 3 while the National Economic and Development Authority 6 will have its Regional Statistics Quiz for Junior High School students from public and private schools on October 25.

On the other hand, the Statistical Bulletin Board Contest for government agencies, LGUs and SUCs will be held from October 14 to 25.

An “Agency Day” dubbed as “Pakig-angot: Government Connecting with Its People” will also be conducted to reach out, inform, and orient people in the region of the services, products, and features of government agencies starting October 14 at SM City Iloilo. (LTP/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
