2020 Innovation – Tax newsletter available for accountants
C-19 is unique. Nobody has the experience to know what to do which means we are relying on creativity and experimentation to identify solutions. Sadly, our brain’s ability to be creative is sorely curtailed when being overwhelmed by escalating bad news and uncertainty about the future.
When we are stressed our brain automatically goes to survival mode, forcing us to focus on the problems of the moment, making it unlikely – or even impossible – to be creative and come up with innovative solutions – just when we need it most!
How, therefore, do we find the time to take a break, relax, and seek some creativity?
There’s an old Buddhist saying which captures this idea perfectly: “You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, except when you’re too busy, then you’ll need the full hour”!
It is more vital than ever to give attention to managing stress. Like so many things, it often boils down to training and education – for accountants, tax professionals, other fee earners as well as all our support team.
