Kenya Space Agency, Konza Partner on Data Center, Space Innovation – Techish Kenya
In a strategic move aimed at advancing Kenya’s space ambitions, the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Konza Technopolis. The agreement will see KSA leverage Konza’s state-of-the-art Data Center, bolstering its capacity to process, store, and manage vast amounts of space-derived information. “This collaboration unlocks crucial infrastructure for KSA, enhancing our ability to handle the massive datasets we generate,” stated Brig. Hillary Kipkoskey, Acting Director General of the Kenya Space Agency. “A top-tier facility like Konza’s Data Center empowers us to drive research and innovation in space science.” John Paul Okwiri, CEO of Konza Technopolis, highlighted the potential for synergy: “This MOU marks a significant step in fostering innovation in Kenya’s science and tech sectors. We are excited to support KSA’s critical work with our secure cloud, data center, and data protection capabilities.” The partnership comes as KSA intensifies its focus on leveraging space-derived data to guide national development. Key areas of interest include agriculture, disaster management, security, communication, urban planning, and resource management. Konza’s Tier III Uptime certified National Data Center, renowned for its cutting-edge power management, cooling, and security systems, will provide a robust foundation for KSA’s data-intensive operations. Furthermore, KSA plans to establish a presence within the “Silicon Savannah” of Konza Technopolis. This move is expected to deepen collaboration and unlock new opportunities for applying space data to address Kenya’s development challenges. The Kenya Space Agency, a state corporation, plays a pivotal role in overseeing national space activities. Its mandate encompasses promoting space-related research, innovation, and the development of regulatory frameworks for Kenya’s growing space sector.
