Blockit Gets a Grant From McKinney EDC’s New Innovation Fund
Blockit, a McKinney-based healthcare SaaS company, has been chosen as a recipient of the newly launched McKinney Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Innovation Fund—and it’s using the grant for a major expansion.
Formed in 2016 to simplify the patient navigation process through technology, Blockit aims to “remove the barriers that keep patients from seeking care.” That means making the booking process more efficient and enabling patient acquisition and retention.
Today, the digital care coordination application includes 5,000 physicians, 1.2 million patients, and 150,000 monthly appointments.
That success is now being accompanied by a headquarters expansion, which Blockit said will create 18 new jobs over the next three years, raising the total number of employees to 31. These jobs will be new and highly technical software engineering positions.
The Blockit HQ sits at the Cotton Mill near downtown McKinney, a location known to be a hub for startups like Bossfight Entertainment and Words with Friends. Blockit said it looks forward to continue building the company in an area incomparable to most.
“We have found few barriers to building our company in McKinney,” said Jake McCarley, CEO of Blockit, in a statement. “Our office is in a unique area, different than your traditional glass box. The city and the environment have been positive, we benefit from the growth of our industry here and we think tech companies will continue to flock to McKinney.”
Supporting the expansion plan is the grant from the McKinney EDC’s Innovation Fund.
The fund, which launched last month, is designed to create opportunities for businesses that wouldn’t traditionally qualify for economic incentives. It aims to invest in companies with high potential, helping to supplement growth in the startup life cycle and support a company as it scales.
“This fund is the real deal. It is providing a solution specific to startup scalability that most current economic incentives do not,” McCarley said. “The MEDC team also knows the lifecycle of a startup and that shows in this new incentive program.”
Blockit was also recently the winner of the Innovation in Healthcare category at the inaugural 2020 Innovation Awards presented by D CEO magazine and Dallas Innovates. We teamed up with our colleagues at D CEO to honor companies and leaders driving innovation in North Texas.
