PubMatic Hackathon 2020– Innovation Delivered|PubMatic Blog site

Innovation is deeply entrenched in our culture and DNA at PubMatic and we are committed to supporting it. One method we do this is through our yearly Hackathon: two days of pure excitement and imagination that we “hacker-types” eagerly anticipate.

While we host a hackathon every year– and some of our most effective item launches, like our Prebid-based OpenWrap wrapper and our Identity Center option were born from Hackathon concepts– this time the pandemic resulted in a requirement to innovate and “hack the Hackathon” construct.

With everybody working from home, handling expert and personal commitments, we took the difficulty head on and accommodated these changes. We successfully covered up our very first Hackathon where whatever was done from another location– all the planning, brainstorming, execution and assessments happened remotely this year. We organized numerous virtual occasions and activities leading up to the Hackathon to keep the momentum and enjoyment going.

This year’s Hackathon once again showed that we have the one of the finest, brightest and most ingenious teams in the market– consistently making us a great place to work!

We also had record levels of participation this year, with 52 groups and over 150 individuals from around the world. Working tirelessly over 2 days and nights, our colleagues built cool and ingenious services with tremendous company value. The services were aligned with our Hackathon themes: future of advertisement tech, money making, effectiveness and automation. It astonishes me how the groups raise the bar every year. The quality of the jobs was outstanding, and the concepts were very diverse.

The competition was so tough that the judges decided to award special prizes in order to acknowledge the efforts of several groups. These initiatives can drive substantial item improvements, make us more effective, and help PubMatic stay ahead of the curve and lead the industry. Here is a sneak peek at a few of the tasks:

Kudos to all the individuals, judges and organizers for making this such an unforgettable and incredible event where all of us collaborated and worked from another location, had a lot of fun and developed really ingenious options in just 48 hours. I am eagerly anticipating developing on the Hackathon projects from this year to continue to bring innovative products that benefit our consumers!
