President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to prioritize innovation
COLOMBO (News 1st): President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Tuesday (Sept. 22) said the groundwork will be laid to create an environment where Sri Lanka could emerge at the top in the field of innovation, the President’s Media Division said.
The Head of State pointed out that the creation of smart technocrats of international standards who can cater to the demands of the domestic and foreign markets is a key requirement.
This was at a discussion held at the State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research & Innovation yesterday (Sept. 22).
President Rajapaksa emphasized the need to launch a program as soon as possible, to provide technological and vocational education to all students regardless of whether they pass or fail GCE O/Ls or A/Ls.
The need to amend the Higher Education Act and bring innovation under a single institution was also discussed, during the meeting, the PMD further noted.
