Michigan Football kills it with another recruiting innovation
Michigan football has done a great job of recruiting during this pandemic and the Wolverines continue to excel with creative thinking.
This extended recruiting dead period brought about by this pandemic has forced colleges to get creative and few have done a better job of it than the Michigan football team.
For a program that was once seen as slightly behind others in recruiting, the Wolverines have adapted quickly and impressively during these different times and they came up with another fun innovation this week — one that recruits will love.
As we all know, recruits aren’t able to take official visits, go to games and do many of the things they have been able to do in the past.
Well, when it comes to the Wolverines 2021 class, they have put together a little bit of a workaround as a number of commits, including five-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy are in Ann Arbor this weekend taking their own self-guided trips.
This is something a number of recruits have done on their own. Andrel Anthony and Tristan Bounds each did it before they committed to the Wolverines and now, even though they won’t be visiting, all of Michigan’s 2021 commits will be in the stands, thanks to some cardboard cutouts.

From the reaction of some of the other Michigan commits in the 2021 class, you can tell that this is going over well.
that’s pretty cool. I guess i’m sort of there watching my guys today #GoBlue #BeatState pic.twitter.com/fM3VHLmpm5

Hopefully, it will catch the attention of another 2021 target, Rayshaun Benny who will likely be watching Michigan-Michigan State with great interest.
Benny is making his decision Nov. 9 and the Wolverines and Spartans are each among the top two. Most believe that they are the top two teams, with some still giving Kentucky a chance too.
In the end, this might not impact Benny, but it could have an impact on others who will be taking self-guided visits such as elite corners Will Johnson and Domani Jackson. Anything you can do to stand out and draw their attention is a good thing.
The biggest thing is that with McCarthy leading the way to organize this trip, the Wolverines have to feel solid about their 2021 commitments. It’s hard to know in this cycle if all the guys are going to stick but as the early-singing period approaches, it’s looking good.
And whether Benny is looking for branding or guys that want that family atmosphere, it’s all on display, right there in one picture.
