Brothers buzzing after innovation challenge success | Sunshine Coast Daily

A pair of Buderim teens will soon become busy bees after winning a business program which will help them turn their passion into a commercial reality.

Twins Karl and Justin Holland were on Thursday crowned as the winners of the 2020 Generation Innovation Challenge.

Their business, Communibee, provides practical solutions to save the honey bee by placing beehives on local acreage properties, giving mutual benefits to the landowner and the beekeeper.

Justin and Karl previously told the Daily they didn’t think their venture would have gotten off the ground without the support of the challenge.

The teens will receive a $10,000 package to help them launch their dream business and have created vital connections with leading businesspeople on the Coast.

Fairfax MP and founder of Generation Innovation, Ted O’Brien, said this year’s challenge was like no other.

“As COVID-19 bore down on the Sunny Coast this year, the younger generation stepped up and led the way with a real embrace of entrepreneurship,” he said.

Although it was tough for the panel of judges to choose a winner, Mr O’Brien said the Buderim pair were well deserving of the crown.

“Karl and Justin are natural entrepreneurs with passion and persistence but also great humility,” he said.

“They really listened to feedback from the marketplace to finalise the business model they plan to take to market.”
