HG Insights Pushing Innovation in Santa Barbara with UCSB

To help train the next generation of data scientists, HG Insights is partnering with UCSB to push innovation in Santa Barbara. We’re happy to provide a platform to help drive some of the best scientific and engineering minds.

The UCSB Data Science Initiative has a huge range of projects and career-building activities. Now, the program is adding a capstone project where students are given access to some of our trove of data. After becoming comfortable with a segment of the data set individually, students will team up to move into the next phase of the project, building a purchasing prediction model.

Innovation in Purchasing Prediction Models 

The purchasing prediction model in development is designed to infer what a company will buy next based on a complex sequence of signals and patterns. This time series analysis will identify patterns, correlate variables, and build some basic models. After a collaboration over two academic quarters, the students will then present their findings and prediction model to a larger audience at UCSB.

A Continuing Culture of Innovation 

We’re sponsoring this UCSB project to continue a legacy of innovation from local industry-university partnerships. After a successful program working with the UCSB Masters of Technology Management students, we’re happy to nurture future members of the industry. 

We are working to pave a path for some UCSB students to stay in sunny Santa Barbara and join a market-leading organization after their education has ended. And it’s clear to see, looking out over the coast of sunny Southern California, that a rising tide lifts all ships.
