New Jaguar Land Rover strategy to ‘drive innovation’ – with the West Midlands at its heart – Birmingham Live

Car giant Jaguar Land Rover has announced it will work with fledgling companies to “drive innovation” as part of a new plan. The car giant said its Open Innovation strategy would help nurture partnerships as it sought to develop next-generation technology.

The sustainability-focused brand also said the new proposals would support its eco-credentials as it sought to become the go-to luxury car brand. The strategy will see it develop a new hub and work with like-minded companies on electrification and connectivity.

The announcement is part of Jaguar Land Rover’s drive to be the creator of the world’s most desirable luxury vehicles. By collaborating with innovators and sector experts, it said the Open Innovation programme would help the business identify digital services, products, tools, and processes for it to achieve its goal of net zero by 2039.

As a Founding Partner of Plug and Play UK, an early-stage investor, Jaguar Land Rover said it was “building an ecosystem” of start-ups and scale-ups that will create jobs. Activities will be located close to Jaguar Land Rover’s headquarters in the West Midlands.

Jaguar Land Rover also revealed two new partnership agreements in Brazil with Cubo Itau and Firjan. It said Brazil was an important hub to help it enter the Latin American start-up sphere, as well as being home to one of its production facilities.

As part of Open Innovation, Jaguar Land Rover has appointed more than 70 “champions” from across key business areas. These include sustainability, engineering, design, research, and manufacturing which will be at the forefront of driving the strategy.

François Dossa, executive director of strategy and sustainability at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “With the launch of the Open Innovation platform, Jaguar Land Rover is looking at the entire mobility and sustainability ecosystem to offer an unparalleled customer experience, shaping the future of our industry, and paving the way to the future. We will explore everything from second-life batteries and circular economy to new fintech, insurtech and digital services – all aligned with Jaguar Land Rover as the proud creators of Modern Luxury.”
