Tata Steel opens Centre for Innovation in Mobility at IIT Madras
Tata Steel said that it has opened a Centre for Innovation in Mobility (CIM) in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Research Park in Chennai with an aim to play an important role in India’s mobility sector.
The Centre for Innovation in Mobility will work closely with academic institutes and mobility industry for developing application technologies for present and future mobility platforms such as railways, automotive, and hyperloop.
According to Tata Steel, the new research and development (R&D) hub houses facilities for Computer Aided Design and Engineering (CAD/CAE), Dynamic Dent test system, Experimental Roll Forming, augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) experience centre, and full-scale facilities for benchmarking of vehicles.
The Centre for Innovation in Mobility adds to the already existing application research centre at Jamshedpur, said the Indian steel manufacturing company. The new hub will cater to the mobility industry with design and engineering, selection of materials, prototyping, and testing.

Recently, Tata Steel inked a memorandum of agreement with deep tech startup TuTr Hyperloop at IIT Madras for co-developing and deploying hyperloop technology at scale.
