Karen RIano

I am humbled by the opportunity to share more about my story and beginnings. I was born and raised in Bucaramanga, Colombia where the only thing I saw growing up was my father working hard. He taught me how important discipline, perseverance, and hard work are. Ever since I was 16, I wanted to live in Miami but I wanted to finish my business and marketing master degree before leaving Colombia. I also worked for an import company I while completing my education. I always felt like something was missing so at age 24, as soon as I finished my studies, I decided to take the risk and make the move. This is where the challenge began. It was hard at the beginning but I learned one of the most important lessons of my life. That is that everything takes time and since then I always keep that in mind. I started a roses company but I gave up after it didn’t go well.  I the took a look at myself in the mirror and realized I always wanted to do real estate, which is what my father did while I was growing up in Bucaramanga. My biggest dream was to be a business woman and little by little I am achieving that goal. I still have a long way to go but I am proud of myself all of my achievements this far.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect? Obstacles

I wouldn’t say It was easy or smooth I had a lot of up and downs but finally I understood that’s what life is, is never going to go one way you are always going trough hard moments but those moments make you who you are, I wouldn’t change anything of what I have lived, I learned so much from those moments that I can say I feel happy and stronger.

Challenge

I felt nobody believed in me, I don’t know if it was my perspective but I felt very lonely at that time. To have classes every day for three years. It takes a lot of time.

The language even if you are in Miami where everyone speaks Spanish, you need English to grow.
