ACS opens new Melbourne innovation hub
The Australian Computer Society opened a new innovation hub in Docklands. The ICT industry group says the co-working space will provide a place for professionals, researchers and government to collaborate on technology challenges like cybersecurity, AI, and privacy.
Located at 839 Collins St, the purpose built 2,000m hub also features private work spaces, meeting rooms and an interactive media wall.
The facilities are available to ACS members — now numbering over 45,000, according to the group. The hub is expected to regularly house over 150 technology professionals.
“We’re delighted to be able to contribute to Victoria’s vibrant technology scene,” said ACS President Yohan Ramasundara.
“The opening of our Melbourne hub is also part of ACS’ commitment of being a catalyst for human capital development while helping the creation and adoption of emerging technologies.
“Our strategic plan focuses on three C’s – capacity, capability and catalyst – where capacity and capability are about ensuring our nation has sufficient and necessary tech skills to achieve an economy higher up the value chain, and one which affords higher paying jobs”.
ACS CEO Andrew Johnson added the new hub will help Australia in its attempt to become a world leader in technology talent.
“The hub creates a meeting place for Victoria’s technology community and gives entrepreneurs a venue to demonstrate their products to a broad audience, gain important insights and iterate throughout the development process,” Johnson said.
ACS is currently seeking permission from its members to change its legal structure from an incorporated association to a company limited by guarantee, including replacing its existing rules.
