Adidas merges tradition & innovation in FW23 London Tennis collection – Fibre2Fashion
Insights
The 14-piece collection boasts performance T-shirts, dresses, jackets, and shorts. Each piece is infused with the latest Adidas technology designed to endure the rigours of modern tennis while paying homage to the quintessential heritage of London, the company said in a press release.
The FW23 collection showcases the use of increased pattern efficiency technology which reduces fabric waste. Notably, traditional methods and fabrics favoured by London tailors, such as single pleating and seersucker fabrics, are employed to instil an authentic British feel.
Annette Steingass, senior director of tennis and court sports apparel, commented: “For this collection, we took inspiration from tailors in London. We studied their unique techniques and then worked on combining those methods, that have withstood the test of time, with our technology. We’re excited to see our next gen athletes in the collection as they strive to inspire new traditions on and off the court this grass season.”
Highlighted pieces in the collection include the Women’s Dress Pro and the Seamless Y-Tank Pro, which display visuals inspired by heraldry and tennis elements like nets, racquets, and court lines. For men, the collection features the Printed Aeroready FreeLift T-shirt with ‘Technical Heraldry’ artwork, and the Tennis Seamless Aeroready T-shirt Pro designed for optimum comfort and breathability.
Another item is the Men’s Tennis Seersucker Aeroready 2in1 short. These shorts employ seersucker fabric, a summer staple for British tailors, designed to keep players feeling cool on the court. Adidas’ Aeroready technology is also incorporated throughout the collection, using sweat-wicking or absorbent materials to ensure players remain dry and comfortable during matches.
Tennis fans will get their first glimpse of the new collection when Adidas athletes, including Stefanos Tsitsipas, Felix Auger Aliassime, Xinyu Wang, Sascha Zverev, Dana Mathewson, Jessica Pegula, Maria Sakkari, and Martin de la Puente, hit the grass courts wearing the new line.
Available in a palette of white with accents of lucid lime and lucid lemon, the FW23 London Tennis collection will be offered in a wide range of sizes for both men and women.
