Torbay Council and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner received money from the government’s Safer Streets Fund to carry out work and take action to discourage anti-social behaviour and reduce violence against women and girls in Torquay town centre and this money is part of that fund.
Councillor Hayley Tranter, Cabinet Member for Adult and Community Services, Public Health and Inequalities, said: “We’re working closely with our partners on a range of programmes which will deliver a welcoming and vibrant town centre and harbourside in Torquay. We want members of the public to play their part, which is what this fund is all about.
“This is a great opportunity for interested local groups to have a think about ways they can improve their area.
“We can’t wait to hear people’s ideas – projects could range from improving green and open spaces to turning underused and unloved buildings into thriving places where people want to be.
“Perhaps you’d like to see public art, landscaping or window displays or maybe you’d consider hosting a tour, walk or discovery trail?”
There is £13,500 available. Projects will need to meet eligibility criteria and the majority of the funding must be spent by 30 September 2023. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 8 August.
The successful applications will be determined by a panel made up of representatives from local community partnerships, business, police and Torbay Council Safer Communities.
The application process is being overseen by Torbay Communities. To find out more, go to their website: https://www.torbaycommunities.com/safer-streets-fund/
