The homepage of the American-Israeli investment firm Arieli Capital offers a quote from Seth Godin, a blogger and podcaster: “There’s no shortage of remarkable ideas,” believes Godin, “what’s missing is the will to execute them.”

Few would dispute that growing fish or strawberries in a desert is a remarkable idea, even in 2020. This month, a partner and head of innovation at Arieli Capital, Or Haviv, duly contacted AFN by phone to rattle off a list of these sorts of “tremendous” desert agri-miracles he’d already seen in southern Israel, explaining how this had inspired his company to help set up a new agri-tech innovation center there.
