Kicking off the panels is a discussion reflecting on the pandemic, to look at exactly what needs to be done to ensure the future success of Health and Social Care.

Martin Jones, who is chairing the panel, experienced the sometimes-poor levels of care in the UK after his father became ill, aspiring him to make a difference to the lives of older people and their families. Martin became part of the team at Home Instead and has since developed the brand into a powerfully admired employer of choice.

Returning to the Care Virtual Summit is Professor Martin Green, Chief Executive at Care England – the largest representative body for independent Social Care services in the UK. In 2008, Martin was named care personality of the year and was awarded an OBE for his remarkable services to Social Care in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Jane Townson was on the Board of UKHCA from 2015 and was Vice Chair from 2017 to 2019. Supporting UKHCA’s mission, Jane promotes high-quality, sustainable homecare services to ensure high-quality living at home and in the local community.

With her wealth of experience in the care sector, Amanda Scott will contribute her experience and knowledge from a Care Home perspective. Amanda qualified as a nurse in 1986 and has since worked as a Home Manager, Regional Quality Nurse, Quality Director, Managing Director and now CEO.

The second panel of the day looks at the importance of diversity and inclusion being ingrained in everyday life and culture. Sharing their own experiences and opinions, the panel will discuss various ideas that you can use to ensure you’re getting it right.

Chairing the panel will be Vic Rayner, who with an extensive knowledge and expertise, is a regular national and international speaker for care. Joining the National Care Forum in 2016, Vic focuses on the Social Care workforce, digital transformation and new models of care and regulation – upholding quality, person-centred care.

Rishi Jawaheer has been the Director at The Jawa Group for over 12 years, dedicated to delivering high-quality care. Rishi grew up in his families first Dementia Care Home and since then, his mission is to change the perception of care, to help encourage younger generations to join the industry. Sophie Chester-Glyn has supported adults with disabilities since the 1990’s. In 2019, she set up Coproduce Care, a non-profit organisation that democratises the care debate by giving social care a voice in the Government. Most recently, Sophie has begun a PhD in post-colonial discourse and human rights within mental health law.

Working for many years in Health and Social Care is Dr. Donald Macaskill, who is now CEO of Scottish Care and representing the largest group of independent Social Care providers across Scotland. Donald has a professional focus on bereavement, palliative care and individual human rights – running his own equality and human rights consultancy for thirteen years.

What does Outstanding mean to you? In this discussion, four exceptional care professionals will be taking to the screen to answer this very question. With lots of helpful tips and advice, this session will help you discover how to start your journey on the road to Outstanding.

Chairing the panel will be Christine Asbury, who’s acquired nearly three decades of experience in innovating within the care and voluntary sectors. Christine has transformed care settings into recognized organisations known for their use of technology, creativity and innovation.

Author of the bestselling book ‘How to Get Outstanding: An Ultimate Guide for Care Homes’, is Issac Theophilos. Issac previously worked as a nursing-home manager, where he achieved Outstanding in all the Five areas of the CQC inspection. Similarly, Blesson Thomas is an expert in achieving Outstanding. Joining The Heights in 2010, Blesson began his career as a Relief Carer, moving on to becoming Deputy Manager and then Service Manager. Since then, The Heights has attained Outstanding in 2016 and 2019.

The final panelist, Nicki Bones, has over 30 years’ experience in Health and Social Care. Nicki has a passion to provide the highest quality care possible, which has become a reality since working at SweetTree. SweetTree has now established itself at the forefront of Home Care.

James Sage, who has a keen interest in workforce challenges for the care sector, will be chairing the panel. James has expertise in advising on HR, employment law, immigration and regulatory and safeguarding issues. He also provides legal commentary for the sector press. Holding senior executive roles in the NHS and private healthcare sector, Barry Sweetbaum is an American citizen who’s lived in the UK for over 40 years. Most recently, Barry established SweetTree Connect, a technology that helps the elderly and vulnerable to remain well and safe at home.

Contributing perspective from both her Home Care and Residential Care experience is Raina Summerson. Raina has worked in Social Care for 30 years within local and central government, as a qualified Social Worker and Regulator. Raina in heavily active in the sector, driving Agincare’s strong values-based culture. Bringing an excellent solution to the recruitment crisis is Patrick Craven. Patrick is part of the team at City & Guilds, who have recently launched ‘Step into Social Care’ – a ‘skill bridge’ that aims to get the unemployed re-skilled into Social Care.
