Catholic Health Celebrates Innovation Center and Partnership with Canisius College
Earlier this year, Catholic Health announced it would invest $135 million for the purchase and implementation of a new Electronic Health Record from Epic Systems to become more efficient and greatly improve healthcare across Western New York.
The project also includes the creation of a partnership with Canisius College. Catholic Health is leasing 25,000 square feet of space for its new Innovation Center, located on the third floor of the Canisius College Science Hall. Information Technology experts from Catholic Health will use the facility to build and customize Epic technology to meet its needs before Go-Live on Nov. 1, 2020.
In celebration of this partnership, representatives and leaders from both organizations held a blessing and dedication ceremony for the Innovation Center on Tuesday, September 10.
The affiliation with Canisius includes internship programs for undergraduate and graduate students with Catholic Health IT experts serving as mentors. In turn, it will allow Catholic Health to become familiar with students when considering job candidates.
Looking Toward the Future with Epic
The investment in Epic’s advanced technology is the largest amount ever dedicated to a single project in the history of the healthcare system. Epic technology will enable Catholic Health to streamline and store medical records under one electronic roof, monitor patients more effectively than ever and provide patients with improved access, communication tools and payment methods. Overall, it’s a monumental upgrade that keeps Catholic Health in line with the top healthcare systems.
