CRN M/Y RIO winning at the 2023 Boat International Design & Innovation Awards
This 62-metre icon of creativity, quality and bespoke design has won the award for Best Naval Architecture, Displacement Motor Yachts.
Ancona, 13 February 2023 – CRN M/Y RIO, the steel and aluminium bespoke work of art by CRN, has won the accolade for Best Naval Architecture, Displacement Motor Yachts at the eagerly awaited Boat International Design & Innovation Awards. The prize was presented on the evening of Wednesday 8 February at the Superyacht Design Festival in the elegant setting of the Alexander Girardi Hall in Cortina d’Ampezzo at a gathering of the leading lights in the nautical world.
This prestigious award is given to the design adjudged the most innovative for its naval architecture and advanced engineering solutions while also considering the visual aspects and the elegance of the lines.
As well as reflecting CRN’s superlative design and build quality, the Best Naval Architecture, Displacement Motor Yachts award also underlines the shipyard’s unrivalled ability to turn an owner’s vision and brief into reality. The result is a unique work of art with a vibrant identity and a strong sense of style, a 62-metre design of exceptional comfort, seakeeping and performance that also vaunts an enviable range.
In giving their reasons for the award, the jury noted CRN’s considerable design achievement of reducing resistance through the majority of the speed range, in perfecting the position of the spray rail forward, and in determining the stern height and trim conditions to keep the lower-deck beach area dry even while running at top performance. Numerous design aspects caught the eye, especially the elongated bowwith its large open-air space and the judicious distribution of weight through precision positioning of the main on-board systems and a careful attention to the layout (including the guest cabins and crew quarters). Also instrumental in winning this Boat International Design & Innovation Award were the focus on the main equipment size to optimise overall efficiency and an insistence on weight reduction, enabling the vessel to cruise at 10 knots at a fuel consumption of under 200 l/h.
The 62-metre RIO by CRN is the fullest expression of superlative craftsmanship and design and construction excellence. The shipyard has collaborated with Omega Architects studio, who created the exterior concept, and Pulina Exclusive Interiors for the styling inside.
The taut, flowing hull lines and near-vertical bow exude dynamic, sporty personality and an eye-catching elegance with aremarkable harmony between the extensive interior and exterior spaces, for a strong impression of fluid poise and even greater volume. The generous full-height windows on the main and owner decks form a visual continuum in sync with the elegant exterior architecture, offering a delightful play of light and reflected shimmer along with a constant direct contact with the sea.
At 62 metres long and 11.2 metres in the beam, this 4-deck superyacht comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests in the owner’s suiteand 5 guest cabins. These comprise 2 full-beam VIPs – one on the main deck forward, the other on the lower deck – and 3 suites on the lower deck, namely 2 doubles and a twin, all served by a lift to the other decks. With 323 sqm for the owner’s exclusive use, the owner deck is striking for its harmonious symmetries, its great openness to the sea, and its eclectic blend of spaces with privacy uppermost in mind.
In addition to her wealth of amenities and style features, CRN M/Y RIO is also IMO Tier III-certified, drastically slashing harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the engine exhaust by 70%. RIO’s sustainability credentials are also the fruit of her other technical solutions. Substantial investment has been made in the efficiency of the on-board systems, in optimising energy consumption and in the choice of materials to enhance comfort and reduce waste while meeting all safety, environmental and IHM requirements.
CRN M/Y RIO is a product of creative design, flexible thinking and state-of-the-art technology, a fine example of the Ancona yard’s supreme construction expertise.
