The Justice Department’s Antitrust Department (DOJ) and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will host a virtual public workshop on Sept. 23rd and 24th, 2020 to talk about the value of copyright rights and pro-competitive collaborations for life sciences companies, research study institutions, and American customers.
“Now more than ever, it is necessary that we think about the role of policy and antitrust enforcement on incentives for innovation in key locations of discovery, such as biotechnology and the life sciences,” stated Assistant Chief law officer for the Antitrust Department Makan Delrahim. “We anticipate a robust discussion of the current legal environment and its effect on competitiveness, and are honored to work together with Director Iancu and his talented team at the PTO in hosting this occasion.”
The workshop will feature a fireside chat in between Assistant Chief law officer Delrahim and Under Secretary of Commerce for Copyright and Director of the USPTO, Andrei Iancu. Former Director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Elias A. Zerhouni will deliver a keynote address.
