Elets Smart City Summit Kanpur explores the journey of urban innovation in the city
At the Smart City Summit Kanpur, organised by Kanpur Municipal Corporation and Kanpur Smart City Limited in association with Elets Technomedia on Tuesday, the first Secretary of Tunisia Embassy Ali Moftahi said that issues of transportation and pollution are to be tackled on priority basis in order to make Kanpur a smart city. To ensure success of the project, major focus should be on the future needs and public contribution when creating any development plans for the city. For this, he urged that while developing any project, public opinion should be taken into consideration.
“In Tunisia, disposal of garbage is carried out outside the city boundaries so that the citizens are not affected by the pollution as the byproduct. Keeping in mind the growing population and future needs of the citizens, wide roads have been built to tackle traffic menace,” Moftahi added.
Ajay Mishra, Special Chief Secretary, Energy, Environment, Forest, Science & Technology, Government of Telangana said, “There is a need to build outer ring road to curb traffic menace. There is a lot of work to be done in the power sector of the city. Telangana generates 4000 megawatts solar energy and ensures 24 hours of electricity supply. Issues of the industry should also be resolved with immediate effect. It does not take more than a month to clear these matters in Telangana.”
While inaugurating the summit, Pramila Pandey, Mayor, Kanpur Municipal Corporation said, “The changes in the smart city project in Kanpur will be evident from next year onwards.”
Subhash Chand Sharma, Divisional Commissioner, Kanpur and Chairman, Kanpur Smart City Limited said that the challenge of preserving the heritage also stands in front of us while transforming the city into a smart city.
“There are ample opportunities to make Kanpur a hub of education,” Prof. Neelima Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur said.
Elets Founder and CEO Dr Ravi Gupta launched the eGov magazine special issue on Kanpur and the journey of transformation from an industrial city to smart city in the presence of other dignitaries.
