Episode 53 – Innovation in Social Media is Critical to Success Online
Does your department or agency have an innovative culture and mindset when it comes to social media?
In today’s show, I’m going to shine a light on agencies that are early adopters on social media and how they understand that first testers get algorithm wins.
Creativity on social media needn’t be challenging. You will still stick to your pillar content but you will be innovative when it comes to content format and distribution.
Coming up in today’s show.
- > Social media trends that require innovation
- > What an organisation needs to be social media agile
- > The AIM method of social media success
- > I interview Mike Woods, News Producer in the Corporate Communications Office of West Midlands Police
Social Media Innovation Requires Commitment
There is no point in being on social media if you are not willing to innovate and keep abreast of the feature and trend updates. Social media innovation simply requires a commitment which is driven by a Communications Manager or department director. I would also say that social media managers can also be that digital champion that leads from the front and often they are influencing up and trying to secure more resources, whether it’s people, skills or budget.
So while listening to today’s episode and in particular, my interview with Mike Woods, ask yourself if you are committed to innovation online – testing, reviewing, iterating. Being willing to fail, to succeed.
AIM is How you Get Engagement on Social Media
As part of our Social Media Bootcamp series, I developed the AIM method for the public sector.
Attention – by building a library of stories told by your people for the people.
Interest – curious to learn more about what you have to say as it resonates or relates to their lives right now.
Motivation – moving citizens from inaction to action and responding to your calls to action or allowing them to make decisions based on the content that you shared.
Interview with Mike Woods, News Producer, Corporate Communications, West Midlands Police
In today’s show, I am delighted to be joined by Mike Woods from West Midlands Police. I have been watching their social media innovation for many years and in fact, have referenced their work in both of my books and in this podcast, and in blog posts. So I was thrilled to finally ask them all the questions I have had over the years. Mike has been very generous with his insights.
