FG lauds Veritas varsity for winning ITU innovation challenge
Federal Government has commended Veritas University, Abuja, for making the country proud by coming tops in the recently concluded African Telecommunication Union Innovation Challenge, held in Nairobi, Kenya. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, conveyed this commendation in a letter addressed to the vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Rev Fr Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku. He said the performance of the team from the Veritas University in Nairobi Kenya “brought honour to our dear country”. Head, Corporate Affairs and Communications, Ben Agande, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, recalled that in a keenly contested Innovation Challenge organised by the African Telecommunication Union and sponsored by Intel, Huawei, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and the GSMA, Veritas University’s “Software Engineering Lab,” won the competition with its “innovative initiative focusing on providing hands-on learning experiences for young innovators”. “The practice is structured to inspire young tech enthusiasts to develop software-driven solutions that tackle community challenges and promote sustainability,” Agande added. In a letter to the Vice-chancellor, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy said he was pleased to extend his felicitations to Veritas for its performance in winning the 3RD edition of the innovation challenge. The letter which was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo noted that “being the winner of the award in Africa is considered a ground breaking achievement not only by your institution but Nigeria in general and I am pleased to inform you that the management and all the staff of the federal ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital economy wish to congratulate you for bringing this honour to our dear country”. The award which was received by Representative of the Nigerian High Commissioner to Kenya as well as officials of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy on behalf of Veritas University will be formally presented to the Vice Chancellor of Veritas University on Friday, 15th March by the Honourable minister.
