Filipino Young Leaders Program Awarded Booz Allen Foundation Innovation Fund Grant

Caretaker Job chosen to receive funding for innovative service to pushing issue triggered by COVID-19 pandemic

September 17, 2020: The Booz Allen Structure, a 501(c)( 3) organization committed to convening diverse stakeholders to resolve challenging social problems, today announced the receivers of almost $1 million in grants from the .

The Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) was chosen to get a grant ($25,000) for its groundbreaking proposition– the Caretaker Job.

Developed to support the advancement of creative services that address the wide-ranging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Booz Allen Foundation Development Fundwas open to individuals, not-for-profit organizations, and qualified small companies to apply from April 30 to June 5, 2020. Almost 3,000 applications were submitted, coming from all 50 states, four U.S. territories, and Washington, DC.

“We are excited and honored to get this generous grant from the Booz Allen Structure to release our Caretaker Task to supply essential services to our kababayans throughout COVID-19,” said FYLPRO President Joshua Ang Rate. “This grant is absolutely big for FYLPRO and the Fil-Am communities we serve, which is a population prone to service spaces and misinformation. Our COVID-19 Task Force envisioned this project as a way to help fill those spaces and deal with the unique requirements of our communities as all of us weather condition this pandemic together.”

The 21 winners– including FYLPRO– picked to get grant funding are each working to establish brand-new options, systems, innovation, and approaches that aid construct enduring neighborhood durability by protecting vulnerable populations and frontline workers or support the safe go back to work.

The Caretaker Task will be introduced as a virtual aid desk to link Filipinos with important, culturally pertinent services such as wellness resources and legal assistance; expose misinformation and caution against fraud and frauds; and improve collection of information to better serve the neighborhood. This project intends to fill gaps in services for the most vulnerable social groups– senior citizens, frontline workers, and the jobless. The anticipated rollout will take place in October 2020 through a proprietary web-based platform, Tayo, with initial focus on the Los Angeles area.

The Caretaker Project was developed by FYLPRO’s COVID-19 Job Force, which is chaired by FYLPRO board member, program director, and representative Leezel Tanglao. Job leadership also includes FYLPRO board member Tiffany Batac, who serves as task supervisor, in addition to product manager Dexter Ligot-Gordon, job operations planner Pia Besmonte and product designer Jiggy Villanueva, all of whom provide their talents from Kalibrr, Southeast Asia’s greatest ranked job search application. FYLPRO board members Joshua Ang Price, Krystle Canare, Melissa Palma, Donny Rojo, TJ Simba-Medel, and FYLPRO alumni Mark Calaguas, Frederick Docdocil, and Ireneo Reus III complete the Caretaker Project team.

Innovation Fund grant applications were evaluated by over 150 people during a multi-tiered examination process. From 3,000 applications, 30 semi-finalists were chosen to virtually pitch their projects to a team of external evaluators with backgrounds in innovation, grant making, and entrepreneurship. The 21 winning groups were then examined and authorized by the Booz Allen Foundation Board.
