Finalists for Nursing Times digital innovation competition revealed | Nursing Times
The nurses, midwives and teams that have been shortlisted in the Nursing Times Digital Technology Innovation Competition have been announced.
Here at Nursing Times, we recognise that nurses and midwives are well-placed to recognise the practical challenges that exist in wards, clinics, and a diverse range of community settings.
And that care leaders often have multiple ideas on how to improve services, systems and processes and deliver better care.
As a result, we asked nurses and midwives whether they had a concept or idea for a technological innovation that could potentially improve patient safety or experience or free uptime to care.
The Nursing Times Technology Innovation Competition 2023 looked for individuals or small teams with bold ideas on how to improve the patient journey or staff experience with technology.
There were two categories. The Digital Practice of the Future category was for individuals or small teams with new ideas that use established or emerging technologies that could change practice.
Entrants were asked to present their concept or idea and explain how they saw it developing, including what help you need to make it happen.
Meanwhile, the Digital Practice Proven Concept category was for individuals or teams who have developed small scale digital projects, pilots or minimum viable products that are ready to take the next steps in development to becoming a larger scale or better evidenced project.
Applications were welcomed from registered nurses and midwives working in all sectors and settings of healthcare.
Entrants shared their ideas and solutions with a panel of industry and digital experts, who then scored them to create our shortlist of finalists.
Thank you to everyone who submitted entries, our judges had an incredibly difficult task examining the high-quality entire and narrowing it down to our 2023 finalists.

Digital Practice: Proven Concept
Join us at the two-day Nursing Times Digital Forum on the mornings of 3 and 4 October, where you will be able to hear our finalists pitch their ideas.
You will then have the chance to vote for the idea you think deserves to win the competition. The event is free to attend, so register now.
The winners will receive the opportunity of mentorship from the Florence Nightingale Foundation, the nursing charity that provides leadership training programmes and scholarships.
This mentorship will be provided by foundation’s digital scholar alumni, who are talented and transformational senior digital health leaders.
Our winners will also receive an invite to the Nursing Times Workforce Summit & Awards on 21 November in London, where they will be given an award.
Plus, they will have the opportunity to present their projects to a wider virtual audience at the Workforce Summit Online event on 15 November.
