FNU Launches The 2022 Quality And Innovation Conference
With the aim of providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences the Fiji National University launched its 2022 National Quality and Innovation conference at the Holiday Inn Suva yesterday.
The exchange of ideas and experiences would be between promoters and members of project teams, experts, academics and the public.
Officiating at the event, Ministry of Youth and Sports, permanent secretary Rovereto Nayacalevu said the conference also recognises and rewards the good work done by the productivity project practitioners through various prizes and awards.
He said the rewards would motivate Fijians to adopt and implement productivity improvement tools at their workplace.
“The National Quality and Innovation Conference (NQIC) is important for our productivity and quality revolution.”
Mr Nayacalevu said it also empowers and provides local organisations the knowledge and techniques to build a more innovative, prosperous and inclusive future.
He said NQIC has come a long way since its commencement in 1995 and many Fijian organizations have benefited immensely from this.
He commended the National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) of the FNU for its support and work in promoting business excellence and productivity in Fiji.
Minimum Wage Rate
The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial relations had recently advised employers and workers that the third tranche minimum wage increase had been affected on October 1, 2022.
Speaking on the topic of minimum wage rate, Mr Nayacalevu said the new rate for the National Minimum Wage will be $3.67 per hour, while the minimum rates for the 10 sectors are provided in the gazette notice.
The fourth tranche and final increase will be in effect from January 1st, 2022, he said.
“The employment ministry’s labour standards and compliance team continue to conduct inspections of the implementation of the third tranche wage increase in all workplaces in Fiji to ensure that all workers are remunerated with the right wage rate,” Mr Nayacalevu said.
He said inspections are to ensure that the most vulnerable in the society are protected and provided a basic standard of living to alleviate poverty.
He added that foreign Employment services unite programme, under this programme assistance is provided to Fijians in rural and maritime areas with the opportunity to work abroad to earn money and upon their return they can utilise those earning to better their standards of living.
“With the growing demand for our Fijian workers under the labour mobility programs, the ministry has achieved another milestone in surpassing the 7000 Fijians that have participated in the programme.”
