Fringe Club introduces an exciting new chapter of innovation and creativity – Travel And Tour World
Friday, December 29, 2023 The illustrious Hong Kong Fringe Club celebrates its triumphant win in securing the tenure for the renowned Grade 1 heritage building at No. 2 Lower Albert Road in the heart of the Central District. This success, following the open tender by the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau (“CSTB”) of the Hong Kong SAR Government, heralds a promising phase for the city’s already dynamic arts and culture scene. Under the stewardship of a newly appointed General Manager and its dedicated Board of Directors since September 2022, the Fringe Club has rekindled its mission. Renewed efforts aim to invigorate the space by curating innovative, avant-garde, and non-mainstream art exhibitions and performances. This revitalization aligns seamlessly with the government’s vision to transform Hong Kong into a cultural crossroads between East and West. Embracing this objective, the Club plans to introduce fresh elements such as city-wide festivals, talent incubation programs, and cross-genre showcases while integrating Chinese culture into its offerings. In a competitive bid to CSTB, our proposal outlined a progressive plan to conserve Hong Kong’s cultural heritage, nurture local talent, and foster global artistic connections. The recent induction of esteemed individuals, Mrs. Regina Leung Tong Ching Yee and Mr. Gustav Mak Ka Lok, onto our Board of Directors adds invaluable expertise in NGO management and a fervent passion for the arts, enriching the Club’s capacity to promote creativity and innovation within the city. Mr. Anson Chan, Fringe Club’s Acting Chairman, expressed our board’s continued commitment to nurturing and incubating young artists, ultimately presenting them on an international stage. “We are dedicated to delivering pluralistic and innovative programmes to the general public, while ensuring smooth and financially-sustainable operation of the Club’s Premises,” said Chan. The heritage building at No. 2 Lower Albert Road stands as an ideal venue for the Hong Kong Fringe Club’s ambitious aspirations. Our vision entails transforming this historical site into a vibrant hub where visual artists, performers, and musicians can exhibit their talents, creating an immersive experience for residents and visitors alike. Moreover, an innovative external lighting and projection system promises to illuminate the Club’s façade, symbolizing our commitment to promoting artistic expression and cementing our significance in Hong Kong’s cultural tapestry. Ultimately, the Hong Kong Fringe Club endeavors to reinvigorate No. 2 Lower Albert Road into an emblematic center for artistic expression, reinforcing the city’s status as a cultural bridge between East and West. We eagerly anticipate collaborations with artists, organizations, and the wider community across Greater China to bring this collective vision to fruition, steadfastly maintaining the Fringe Club as a beacon of artistic excellence.
