Georgia’s ranking in Global Innovation Index sinks 15 spots
Georgia’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index (GII) deteriorated by 15 spots compared to last year, dropping the country from 48th to 63rd place with a score of 31.78 out of 100.
Georgia significantly lags behind Ukraine (45th), Russia (47th) and the Baltic states.
As for Georgia’s other neighbors, Turkey (51st place) and Armenia (61th place) are ahead of Georgia, while Azerbaijan is far behind Georgia taking 82nd place in the rankings.
131 countries are on the list, with Switzerland in first place and Yemen in last.
Georgia is on sixth place out of 19 countries in the Northern Africa and Western Asia region, while it ranked 17th place just one place before Belarus out of 37 upper-middle income countries.
Georgia was ranked 48th last year, while it came in 59th in 2018.
The Global Innovation Index (GII) was first published in 2012.
