Hoosier Innovation coming to Minnetrista!
Muncie, IN— Following East Central Indiana’s gas boom, the Hoosier cabinet, an innovative free-standing piece of kitchen furniture, emerged as one of the most iconic products of the region’s booming industry. Created around 1900, the Hoosier not only revolutionized the home kitchen, but also left its mark on the region, state, and nation for decades to come. Hoosier Innovation is an exciting new exhibit that considers the story of this influential product and the companies that made it.
“For Hoosier Innovation we have not only pulled from our own museum collection, but we have also collaborated with other regional organizations and private collectors,” Jessica Jenkins, Curator at Minnetrista explained. “We are bringing together a phenomenal grouping of original objects. By placing artifacts alongside interactive elements we hope our visitors will have as much fun exploring this unique East Central Indiana story as we had developing the exhibit.”
From October 5 through February 16 this in-house exhibit will be available in our gallery space. The exhibit will include interactive learning activities for all ages. Take a walk through the gas boom and into daily factory life. Explore the effects of regional industry and the modernization of the American kitchen. Peer in on a slice of history and experience the stories of the men and women caught up in its wake.
