HydroSide Systems LLC Wins Farm Bureau Ag Innovation Challenge

The American Farm Bureau Federation announced HydroSide Systems LLC as the winner of the Farm Bureau Ag Innovation Challenge this week. Micheal Clements has more.

Clements: HydroSide Systems LLC won the Farm Bureau Innovation Challenge, becoming 2020 Farm Bureau Entrepreneur of the Year. AFBF, in partnership with Farm Credit, announced the winner at it’s 101st Annual Convention in Austin, Texas. HydroSide CEO and Founder Dana Mohr, a Farm Bureau member from Idaho, says the business will produce hydroelectric irrigation technologies for farms.

Mohr: Our basic product is a replacement to the traveling gun and it’s a product that can be plugged into a wheel line for farmers using those methods of irrigation. Water comes into the system, and in our case, it will spin a turbine. That turbine charges batteries, and then those batteries will power our onboard computer and navigation system, as well as our electric drives.

Clements: The company received a total of $30,000 in prize money. Mohr says winning the challenge provides a big boost to his business.

Mohr: Right out of the gate, it gives us credibility. You can’t put a price tag on that. And, we’ve been very blessed to even get this far, let alone to take home the top prize. Working with the Farm Bureau, they’ve been just amazing, really helping us advance our brand, and it’s been absolutely amazing.

Clements: Mohr says the Ag Innovation Challenge empowers rural entrepreneurs to improve agriculture and the ag economy.

Mohr: We can’t express our gratitude and thanks enough to American Farm Bureau and the amazing sponsors that made this competition accessible and available to us all. It really empowers us rural entrepreneurs, and we are forever grateful for the efforts and the time and the dollars that they’ve invested.
