This year’s innovation expo will host a research and development competition and a pitching session for Selangor’s R&D&I sector.
Innovation expo
Selangor’s Innovation Expo is an event that brings together companies, universities, and investors to discuss new ideas and technologies. The theme of the event is Reinvent the future of intellectual property and innovation, and participants from various sectors are invited to showcase their creations. The Selangor R&D Innovation Expo is currently taking place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 6 to 9 October. It aims to promote direct industry partnerships and strengthen the Golden State’s position in global innovation.
This event is held in collaboration with the MENASA Business Summit, which brings together nearly 30,000 investors from around the world. This is one of the largest business summits in the region, attracting 906 exhibitors from 24 countries.
Research competition
Researchers from UiTM, UTP, UiTM Postgraduate School, UTP Postgraduate School, and UTP won various awards for their research projects. In the Innovation Project Competition, UTP won for their project on Biofilm Forming of Microalgae on Seaweed for Biodiesel and Bioethanol Production. In the Category of Green Technology, UTP took the top spot.
Innovation is an international phenomenon. Whether it is the creation of new products or services, it is an effort to improve our lives. As such, it is important to promote local solutions to global problems. This is the only way to achieve SDG targets.
Pitching competition
The Innovation Expo Selangor’s Pitching Competition is a platform for startup companies to present their ideas. Competitors will be required to submit a 90-second video pitch addressing their sustainable plan. The submissions will be scored by a panel of judges. The top five will move on to the final round. The Innovation Expo Selangor is back after a sabbatical following the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. It brings together key stakeholders from the Bio-technology and Life Sciences sectors to promote innovation in these fields. Besides that, the event includes a day-long industrial site visit to the Halal Hub of Selangor and stimulated discussions on the ASEAN Economic Community’s Vision 2025. The event also aims to drive business growth in the region.
Awards
The Innovation Expo Selangor held competitions to award top innovations. A total of RM250,000 was awarded for five innovation projects. The grants are provided by the Selangor government and are based on clusters. The University of Malaya was crowned as the winner in the food and beverage category, while the University of Putra Malaysia and Shah Alam City Council took home the prizes in the electrical and electronics and machination and equipment categories. The Malaysian Nuclear Agency also took home the award in the life sciences category.

The main objective of the conference is to foster the growth of ASEAN’s economy and promote trade and investment in the region. The region has the potential to become the world’s fourth largest economy by 2030 and its population is young and digitally-savvy. The ASEAN-led Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) has recently come into force, making it a desirable destination for FDI.
Digital economy convention
Digital economy convention is one of the premier events for digital transformation in Southeast Asia. It brings together cities, associations, and government representatives to discuss the latest insights in digital transformation. It provides a great networking platform for both small and big businesses. The event will feature over 300 exhibitors from 20 countries. The event also offers an opportunity to meet key decision makers in the ASEAN region.
This event will bring together leading players in the field through offline and online platforms. It also features an exclusive hosted buyer’s programme that helps companies maximize their business opportunities. Additionally, the event will host two high-impact panels on entrepreneurship, resilience, and the importance of technology.
