INNOVATION: Israel Is Inventing a Diabetes Drug
Could it be that Israel will save the lives of hundreds of millions of diabetes sufferers? If so, it wouldn’t be the first time that Israel radically altered the lives of so many around the world with a new medical advance.
What drives so much of Israeli innovation? Is it the brilliance of some of the Israeli scientists? Perhaps that is part of it. But, there are brilliant scientists in other parts of the world too? Why do so many innovations seem to come out of Israel and not from other places that are so much larger?
It seems that there is a strong driving spirit in the country that wants to accomplish so much more than to live happily and be good. There is a drive to impact on the whole world that drives many of the innovators in Israel. Sometimes it is the drive for financial reward with a worldwide impacting invention that drives new ideas. But, there seems to be yet another dimension that is dominant. Some will call it the natural inclination of the Jewish people to be a light unto the nations. Perhaps. But I think that a more down-to-earth explanation is that people in Israel are known for having big hearts. They care about their loved ones. And when they see the suffering of their loved ones, they understand that there are millions of other people in the world going through the same pain and anguish – and they care. So, they think how they can innovate and remove that pain and anguish from the world. Perhaps that is what drives so much of the innovation in Israel.
