Intel demos 14th Gen Core

Intel demos Raptor Lake Refresh for the first time

Contrary to what many have believed, Intel did confirm Raptor Lake Refresh at Innovation, except it was not part of any official keynote.

During the pre-show on the Innovation floor, the camera crew visited various booths showcasing Intel hardware, some of which featured pre-release hardware slated for a launch months from now. Surprisingly, despite no prior announcement during Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger’s keynote, the rumored 14th Gen Core series made its unexpected debut on the second day of the event.

However, this disclosure didn’t occur during the second day’s keynote but rather as a demonstration on the show floor. The presenter explicitly mentioned that this was the first public appearance of the prelaunch hardware based on the Raptor Lake Refresh series. The demonstration involved a desktop system utilized for creating a Meta Human—a virtual avatar of a real person captured with cameras.

Unfortunately, this is where the information ends, as neither the SKU names nor the CPU configurations were disclosed. Curiously, this marked the only mention of this ‘architecture’ throughout the entire Innovation event, despite the significant focus on the 13th Gen Raptor Lake during the previous year’s event. Instead, Intel emphasized Meteor Lake and Lunar Lake, particularly highlighting their AI acceleration capabilities.

The upcoming Intel 14th Gen Core Raptor Lake Refresh is expected to include six initial models, including the 24-core 6 GHz Core i9-14900K(F), the 20-core 5.6 GHz Core i7-14700K(F), and the 14-core 5.3 GHz Core i5-14600K(F) models. More SKUs, mostly non-K 65W models are set to launch at CES 2024.

As things currently stand, the Intel 14th Gen Core desktop CPUs, part of the 125W unlocked K-Series, are anticipated to debut on October 17th. Intel has not officially confirmed pricing, although specifications have likely been known for several weeks now.
