Jasper wins 2020 innovation in arts and culture award – Dubois County Free Press
Sibling Cities of Jasper revealed the city had received the Development Award in Arts & & Culture for cities with a population under 25,000 from Sister Cities International during their annual conference held today.
This is the 3rd award Sister Cities of Jasper has gotten from Sister Cities International in 3 years. The city has also received the award for Best General Program in 2018 and the award for International Business & & Trade in 2019.
“We are honored and delighted to win this award for development in Arts & & Culture from Sis Cities International,” said Mary Leah Siegel, president of the Sis Cities of Jasper. “We are so happy of our new sibling cities logo and the cooperation and collaboration between Jasper and Pfaffenweiler on this project. Receiving recognition of our effort and this award for our efforts is simply an additional fantastic advantage.”
Sister Cities of Jasper received its most current award for the work and accomplishment on the brand-new logo design project and contest held in 2019. The task was a joint effort between Jasper and it’s sister city, Pfaffenweiler, Germany.
While checking out Pfaffenweiler during the bi-annual student exchange in the summer season of 2019, Ross Halvorsen, who teaches German at Jasper High School and is a member of the Sibling Cities board of directors, made plans with sister city employee of Pfaffenweiler to hold the logo contest. The idea was to link the 2 cities with the development of a typical collaboration logo.
A contest was held in both cities with a $500 reward for the picked design. More than 60 designs were sent from artists in both cities and the choice was limited to a design submitted by Tracey Lorey of Jasper who runs Running Design Studio.
The winning submission and logo design was exposed in January of 2020, simply in time for the 35th anniversary of the partnership between the 2 cities.
