Key takeaways from Adriatic AWS Innovation Days 2019

The second edition of Adriatic AWS Innovation Days conference was held in Istrian city of Opatija on October 10-11th. During these two days, our AWS team attended lectures and panel discussions on Developer & IT Professional track. The speakers, international experts, gave us their insight into various aspects of AWS technologies and shared the latest innovations.

So, what’s hot? Here are the key takeaways:

1. Automation

One of the most significant takeaways for this year’s Adriatic AWS Innovation Days conference is automation. This comes as no surprise since now days you really can’t think of cloud or AWS without some sort of automation. It doesn’t matter whether you’re using CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef or something else; as long as it works for you and gets the job done. In this fast-paced industry, it’s crucial to roll out new releases as fast as possible in order to be competitive. And although this might be old news for most people, it’s still such a crucial thing in cloud computing that it’s worth mentioning it.

2. Right tool for the right job

Sometimes when your infrastructure grows larger than you’ve anticipated you might find yourself in the position to re-evaluate the tools you’re using. Trying to stick to one tool that you’re familiar with is not an option anymore, especially if you’re having a hard time managing your infrastructure as a result. It’s important to always try new tools and services to find the right tool for the right job. Whether we’re talking about automation tools that will help with your IaC or different orchestration tools for your Docker environment or CI/CD tools – it’s important to use the tools that fit your needs.

3. CI/CD experience on AWS

You might be familiar with AWS CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy and CodePipeline. But what you might have missed is AWS CodeStar.  Instead of going through the whole process of setting up each and every tool and service that will get you through you whole CI/CD pipeline, AWS CodeStar will do all of it for you. Setting a correct CI/CD process isn’t easy and CodeStar binds the previously mentioned services together in a single dashboard where you can manage your deployment. This isn’t a new tool, but it would seem that the whole user experience now is much better and that it’s simple to get started with your project. This tool might not be for everyone, but it’s worth giving it a try since it gives you an opportunity to get started in a short amount of time.
