‘Kids Can Do Anything’ at Klein Creates Innovation Challenge – Klein ISD Newsroom
Nearly 500 K-12 students gathered for the Klein Creates Day of Design on December 6 to participate in Klein ISD’s fourth annual Innovation Challenge.
An Innovation Challenge is an opportunity for students to employ innovation and creative problem-solving skills to create a solution to a problem. This Innovation Challenge tasked students with coming up with the next big idea! Teams imagined a prototype to solve meaningful problems they identified for themselves, their families, and their local communities.
“It’s important for kids to solve problems, because it shows kids can do anything!” said Megan, a student at Hassler Elementary, whose team is addressing the issue of homelessness.
Students worked side-by-side with industry experts to talk through their designs and practiced their pitches for feedback.
“It was so inspiring to see these teams of students working together today at the Day of Design,” said Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown. “Spending time visiting with our kids about the ideas they’ve come up with and the potential solutions and designed iterations to the problems they identified fills me with hope and makes me excited about what is possible for our world.”
Our students employed curiosity, imagination, and creativity throughout the day as they worked their way through the design thinking process.
Teams will now finalize their projects and submit their pitches to a panel of judges. Finalists will be announced in February! In the meantime, check out the Flickr album to see all the fun!
