Know a STEMM champion? Nominate them for the 2023 SA Science Excellence and Innovation Awards

Nominations for the 2023 SA Science Excellence and Innovation Awards are now open.

The award invites the state’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) community to identify and put forward the most outstanding members of their fields.

“This longstanding awards program is the state’s leading recognition of scientific excellence,” Minister for Climate, Environment and Water Susan Close says.

For almost 20 years, the awards have helped raise the profile of exceptional STEMM professionals.

It provides a platform for well-deserving individuals and teams to receive widespread recognition for the social, economic, health and/or environmental impacts of their work.

“Our Science Excellence and Innovation Awards highlight how South Australia’s educators, researchers, innovators and industry leaders work tirelessly to build a sustainable, healthy and equitable future,” Chief Scientist for South Australia Professor Caroline McMillen says.

South Australian-based scientists, innovators, researchers, and educators are encouraged to nominate themselves, or a colleague, for recent achievement in the following categories:

South Australian Scientist of the Year

South Australian Innovator of the Year

PhD Research Excellence

Excellence in Science and Industry Collaboration

STEMM Educator of the Year – School

STEMM Educator of the Year – Tertiary (University or Registered Training Organisation)

Category winners receive prize money to support their future career or research aspirations—$25,000 each for the South Australian Scientist of the Year and South Australian Innovator of the Year, and $10,000 each for the remaining winners.

“Being selected as a finalist or winner is not only a huge honour, but can lead to further wins, like attracting new employees, partners and/or investors,” Close says.
