Rajnath Singh stated the SDC is a sound example of synergistic collaboration between the country’s flagship aerospace giant and the very best in class premier academic community.
Bengaluru: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday (August 13) inaugurated the HAL-IISc Skill Advancement Centre (SDC) developed at IISc’s Challakere campus in Chitradurga district, 225 km from Bengaluru through a video conference.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajnath Singh said understanding is power and experienced labor force is a fundamental need for development and imagination, adding that the SDC is a sound example of synergistic cooperation between the country’s flagship aerospace giant and the finest in class premier academia.
Leading officials present on the event included General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff, Dr Ajay Kumar, Defence Secretary, Raj Kumar, Secretary (Defence Production), R Madhavan, CMD, HAL, Alok Verma, Director (HR), HAL, Prof G Rangarajan, Director, IISc.
The centre will impart abilities to different beneficiaries ranging from local community members to high-end engineering specialists to usher true ‘Make-in-India’, stated Madhavan.
“We are grateful to HAL for supporting us and partnering with us on this crucial national effort,” stated Prof Rangarajan, including “We excitedly anticipate working closely with HAL, to understand our shared vision of training numerous aiming young workers and specialists from throughout the nation”.
The objective of the SDC is to produce a big pool of trained personnel to resolve essential skill development spaces in India, vital for economic development and self-sufficiency. It is a natural outgrowth of a successful training program for rural science and mathematics teachers that IISc started in 2011 at the Challakere campus.
The IISc approached HAL in 2016 with its proposal and HAL consented to money and support the effort under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The MoU for establishing the centre, with an expense of Rs 73.7 crores, was signed on March 28, 2016, and building and construction began on October 27 the exact same year.
The SDC lies on 1,500 acres of land offered by the Government of Karnataka during IISc’s centenary year events in 2008
