Kodex Africa, Anambra State ICT Agency Host Young EDC Entrepreneurs on Innovation, Entrepreneurship Tips

Telecom Kodex Africa, Anambra State ICT Agency Host Young EDC Entrepreneurs on Innovation, Entrepreneurship Tips Kodex Africa and the Anambra State ICT Agency on Thursday,21st March 2024, played host to a delegation of budding entrepreneurs from the Enterprise Development Centre (@EDC4SME), fostering innovation and collaboration within the Anambra State’s tech ecosystem. The visit, part of a broader initiative to nurture entrepreneurship, as explained by the Head, of the Alumni Relations and Support Services Department at the Pan Atlantic University, Mrs. Nnenna Ugwu, highlights the partnership between the EDC and the Mastercard Foundation for the implementation of the ‘Transforming Nigeria Youth Programme’. According to Mrs. Ugwu, “This program is dedicated to empowering Nigerian youths, between ages 15 to 35, by providing them with essential skills and resources to generate sustainable employment opportunities. “With various training programs, consulting services, and incentives, EDC is fostering entrepreneurship and empowering youths across Nigeria,” she said. Mrs. Ugwu underscored the tangible benefits of such collaborative ventures, citing significant advancements in job creation, market access, business formalization, and overall economic development within the region. She further expressed profound appreciation to the team at both Kodex Africa and Anambra State ICT Agency for their hospitality and knowledge shared as well as potential for future partnerships. In his remarks, the MD/CEO, of Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, CFA shared success tips with the eager entrepreneurs and highlighted the critical role of partnerships in entrepreneurial success. “Partnerships are the cornerstone of success. There is a whole lot you can achieve when you collaborate with the right people. I encourage you to leverage partnerships that work, and target trending skills like AI to propel your business forward,” CFA added. On his part, Barr. Ifedi Eze, Director at Kodex, urged participants to keep partnership and collaboration at the forefront of their minds in achieving the shared vision for Anambra’s tech ecosystem. During the event, Chidimma Idika, Operations Lead at Kodex, provided invaluable insights into the company’s activities and its unwavering commitment to fostering entrepreneurship not only in Anambra but across the African continent. Similarly, the ICT Agency team seized the opportunity to showcase Anambra’s technological advancements under the visionary leadership of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, further cementing the state’s position as a hub for technological innovation and entrepreneurial growth. The event featured enriching discussions and experience-sharing sessions around entrepreneurship and the ongoing developments in Anambra State. Mr Governor Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo was greatly commended for his efforts in this regard. On behalf of the young entrepreneurs, Mr. Okorie Kalu expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Kodex team and ICT Agency for their invaluable contributions and insights shared on their learning experience to the state and pledged to work with the state to achieve greater heights. Telecom NDPC, Ondo State Partner to Upskill Youths, Create Jobs in Data Protection Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has expressed its readiness to work with the Ondo state government to promote a culture of Data Protection that would also help create employment opportunities for young people in the state. Dr Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC revealed this when he received his excellency, the Ondo state Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday. Dr Olayide said the purpose of his visit was to explore possible areas of collaboration between NDPC and the state in a way that fosters development for the people of the State. According to him, “our government is passionate about youth development and one of the ways to ensure our youths are gainfully employed is to equip them with the right skills, needed for 21st century workplace. In view of this, we have identified ICT as one key area to upskill our youths and expand their capabilities so as to be globally competitive. “My visit here today is to meet with the team at NDPC to establish a partnership that will enable us train thousands of young graduates in Ondo state as data protection officers, realizing the enormous opportunity in this field.” Dr Olatunji, while commending the move by the Ondo government to explore the potentials of data protection in empowering its young citizens, decried what he described as the dearth of data protection officers in Nigeria, stressing that only 10,000 out of 500,000 available positions are currently filled. He commended the Deputy Governor’s understanding of the importance of data protection. He said, “Unauthorised access to data will lead to breaches, and breaches will lead to lots of implications, such as reputational damage, financial loss and in extreme cases, death.” He acknowledged the Ondo state government’s commitment to addressing this issue and its potential to enhance trust and confidence in governance. Dr Olatunji warmly accepted the proposed collaboration, expressing the Commission’s eagerness to work with the Ondo state government to promote a culture of Data Protection, enhance capacity, and create employment opportunities within the state. “Jobs will be available for the youths of Ondo state when they are trained and certified as Data Protection Officers, which will also give room for global competition.” This collaborative effort between NDPC and the Ondo state government signifies a significant step towards harnessing data protection for youth development and governance enhancement, ultimately contributing to the progress and prosperity of Ondo state and Nigeria as a whole.
