MEDIA ADVISORY: Greg Walden to Host Energy and Environment Innovation Showcase
Today, Representative Greg Walden (R-Hood River), the Republican Leader of the Energy and Commerce Committee, announced that he will host the “Energy & Environment Innovation Showcase” to highlight the importance of investing in the development and deployment of breakthrough technologies to reduce emissions, power the economy of tomorrow, and provide greater value to American consumers.
The event will showcase the innovative energy and environment solutions from local companies across the country, including two companies Walden invited from Oregon.
One of the companies participating is NuScale, an Oregon based company developing small modular nuclear reactors. The company has partnered with Oregon State University, the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Lab, and others in developing the next generation of carbon free nuclear power.
“Any serious efforts to reduce emissions from energy production must include new, safe, and small modular nuclear power, like that being developed by NuScale in Oregon,” said Walden. “Nuclear power is emissions-free, and the technology being designed by NuScale can help communities transition from coal to cleaner energy sources.”
In addition to NuScale, Walden invited DR Johnson Lumber. The company was the first in the U.S. to produce Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) panels certified for construction. CLT and other mass timber products could help reduce the carbon footprint of new buildings. These products also present an opportunity to improve economic development in rural communities, while also improving forest management and reducing the threat of wildfire.
During the showcase, Walden will join noted public opinion researcher Kristen Soltis Anderson for a discussion on climate change solutions. Click here to read their bios.
