OPEN DOORS: Innovation at Wang Chen TTC – Home School Support

(by Steve Hopkins)

An innovative idea emerged last week from the Wang Chen Table Tennis Club. As shut-downs continue, many students will be home for some or all of the workweek.  This affects parents who normally avoid daycare during the hours that their children would be in school – and in our cities, this also affects daycare and after school programs who have been unable to respond to the increased demand.

This is the case in the greater New York City area where there are three Wang Chen Table Tennis Clubs.  Their answer is the 2020 Home School Support Program.  This program provides 9 hours of daily supervision per day, can be purchased by the day or week, and it includes table tennis as a key component.

The program ends at 5p, before most clubs even open.  It provides a new stream of income at a time where table tennis clubs are dealing with reduced participation (and are just recovering from months of shut down).  At the same time, this serves a real need in the community – as so many parents are seeking alternate care options at times when daycare centers are full and schools are locking students out.

What a great opportunity to serve a community, introduce new families to the facility, and to generate some funds when it is really needed.

Wang Chen Table Tennis leading the way with innovation.
