OUAT Hosts Agri Journalism Sessions, Nurturing Innovation in Farming Narratives

Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) hosted the session on Agri Journalism at Biju Pattnaik Hall today in a vibrant gathering, drawing together eminent personalities and enthusiasts from the agricultural and media sectors. The event commenced with the registration of participants, setting the stage for an enriching exchange of ideas. The Inaugural session was graced by distinguished guests, their arrival marked by the presentation of flower bouquets, invocations, and the symbolic watering of the holy plant. Prof P J Mishra, the Dean of Extension Education at OUAT, extended a warm welcome and introduced the distinguished lineup of speakers. The audience was treated to insightful addresses by esteemed figures, including Pramod Kumar Mohapatra, Editor of The Samaja; MC Dominic, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Krishi Jagran; and Jagadananda, Former State Information Commissioner. Vice-Chancellor of OUAT, PK Roul, shared his thoughts on the occasion, emphasizing the critical role of media in agriculture. The Chief Guest, Ranendra Pratap Swain, Minister of the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment in the Government of Odisha, delivered an address highlighting the significance of media in shaping agricultural policies. Dr S. Das, Joint Director (Info) at OUAT, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective wisdom shared by the dignitaries. The Technical session kicked off with a captivating OUAT video and a presentation by Dr Sanat Mishra, Senior Scientist, shedding light on OUAT’s initiatives. The subsequent themes delved into the intersection of digital media and agricultural innovation, farm women empowerment through media, challenges and opportunities in agri-journalism, and the role of print media in supporting agriculture and livelihoods. Experts like Ashok Das of Sankalpa TV, Kasturi Roy from The New Indian Express, MC Dominic, and Janakish Badapanda presented diverse perspectives on the evolving landscape of agri-journalism. The session also addressed the constraints and prospects of agri-media through the insights of Natabar Khuntia, an eminent columnist. The engaging discussions were further enriched during the open house session. The session concluded with a thoughtful summation, takeaways, and a glimpse into the way forward by Dr Sujit K Nath, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Ganjam-II. Dr A.
