Marsh McLennan Creates New Senior Leadership Positions
Marsh McLennan announced the appointment of John Jones as chief marketing and communications officer and Pat Hagemann as chief of staff to the chief operating officer.
Jones will lead Marsh McLennan’s new marketing and communications organization, which will support the company’s four businesses of Marsh, Guy Carpenter, Mercer and Oliver Wyman, and the Marsh McLennan Advantage group, which drives cross-business initiatives, partnerships and thought leadership. Jones joined Marsh McLennan in 2016 and is currently chief marketing officer of Marsh. He has more than 25 years of marketing, communications, and strategy experience, including as senior vice president of marketing and strategy of AIG’s commercial insurance business.
In her new role, Hagemann will support strategic initiatives and liaise with business and functional leaders across the company to administer a wide range of projects. The company’s business resiliency management, global security and executive services teams will report to her. In her 40-year career at Marsh, Hagemann has held numerous leadership roles, including global risk and compliance officer and chief operating officer for the U.S. and Canada. She has been chief administrative officer of Marsh since 2017.
Jones and Hagemann will report to John Doyle, group president and chief operating officer of Marsh McLennan. The appointments are effective July 1.
Lockton Financial Services Adds Marsh Innovation Expert
Lockton has named M. Machua Millett as chief innovation officer and alternative investment practice leader within its Lockton Financial Services (LFS) unit.
Millett brings technical expertise and complex claims experience. He has worked with private equity and venture capital firms, hedge funds, special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) and companies involved in traditional initial public offerings and reverse mergers.
He joins Lockton from Marsh, where he spent 12 years, most recently as chief innovation officer in the company’s FINPRO Practice. At Marsh, Millett helped to create a number of innovative insurance coverages, including products focused on wage and hour liability, regulatory investigation costs, intellectual property infringement liability, reputational risk, SPAC and de-SPAC transactions and others.
Prior to his broking career, he spent a decade as an intellectual property, securities and general commercial litigator and insurance coverage defense lawyer at Skadden Arps, Bingham McCutchen and Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge.
Based in Boston, Millett will report to Gary Phillips, Lockton Financial Services leader for the Northeast.
Applied Financial Lines Expands with Launch of Cyber Risk Insurance Unit
Applied Financial Lines, an affiliate of Applied Underwriters, Inc., has formed a cyber risk insurance unit to be co-led by Vice President Lauren Markowski and Vice President Vincent Regina. The new unit will offer cyber and technology errors & omissions (E&O) excess liability in the U.S., EU and Israel.
Markowski and Regina join Applied Financial Lines from CelerityPro, where they helped launch and manage cyber and professional liability lines business.
Markowski has 20 years of professional liability experience at the reinsurance and primary levels. Prior to her role at CelerityPro, she helped manage the cyber liability treaty portfolio at Transatlantic Reinsurance Co. She also handled cyber, miscellaneous professional liability and technology E&O accounts at Liberty International Underwriters and AIG. Markowski’s experience also includes claims management from the reinsurance and primary side.
Regina began his insurance career at Liberty Mutual where he spent two years in the company’s corporate development program. He served his post in Boston, New York and London before joining Liberty’s professional liability unit, where he wrote cyber, tech E&O and miscellaneous professional liability. Regina has managed small business cyber programs, developed policy wordings and account guidelines, and programmed technology platforms.
Along with cyber risk and technology E&O insurance, Applied Financial Lines offers primary and excess business insurance including professional indemnity and directors & officers liability.
