Podcast: Boston Dynamics talks Spot; UR on cobot innovation
Welcome to episode 3 of The Robot Report Podcast, which brings conversations with robotics innovators straight to you. Join Steve Crowe and Eugene Demaitre every Wednesday for discussions with leading roboticists, innovative robotics companies, and other key members of the robotics community.
Eugene and Steve this week talk with Boston Dynamics and Universal Robots, two companies that earlier this week were named RBR50 Innovation Award winners by our sister publication Robotics Business Review.
Boston Dynamics this week commercially launched its Spot quadruped throughout the U.S. This launch marks the first time businesses can purchase a Boston Dynamics robot. Michael Patrick Perry, VP of Business Development at Boston Dynamics, joined us to talk about Spot’s progression and launch, the most unique Spot applications, and the status of Spot’s robotic manipulator. Michael also provides updates on Boston Dynamics’ Pick vision system and its other robots in development, including Handle.
Jürgen von Hollen, President of collaborative robotics pioneer Universal Robots, also joined the podcast from Denmark. Jürgen talks about how he almost turned down the job, how the company has maintained its culture of innovation over the years, and cobot trends to keep an eye on. Jürgen also took off his company hat for a bit and opened up about his life outside of Universal Robots.
