SensorSafe – A Safety Innovation | Evenflo Blog
Get Safety Alerts in Real-Time from your Child’s Car Seat
As a parent, you probably find yourself worried about your child’s well-being more often than seems reasonable. It just seems like there are so many dangers—at home, on the go, seemingly everywhere you turn! We have a saying here at Evenflo: keep calm and parent on.
But as much as we’d like to tell you there’s nothing to worry about, as parents ourselves, we know that’s simply not true. That’s why we’re committed to ensuring our products surpass very rigorous safety standards—and to finding new ways to keep kids safe.
SensorSafe™ is one of those new solutions, designed to provide parents with much needed peace of mind.
What is SensorSafe?
Included in select Evenflo Gold and All4One car seats, SensorSafe’s integrated technology monitors your child and car, sending you a real-time notification via the mobile app if any of these potentially dangerous conditions occur:
Providing a connection between parent and child from the moment the child is secured in the car seat until the trip ends and the child is removed from the seat, SensorSafe is the only system that has sensors integrated directly into the chest clip of safety-tested car seats. SensorSafe offers the widest range of safety notifications of any child car seat technology in the U.S. market.
Why we’re passionate about SensorSafe
Our hope is that no one will ever need SensorSafe, but data tells us otherwise.
From 1998 to 2021, 906 children lost their lives to vehicular heatstroke (hyperthermia). Over half of those children (53%) were forgotten by a caregiver. It can happen to anyone. Sunlight streaming through the windows can rapidly warm up hard surfaces in the vehicle, which in turn heat up the surrounding air. Research has found that even on relatively cool days, the temperature rise in vehicles can be significant and can put children at risk for heatstroke. SensorSafe will send an audible alert to your phone if the temperature in the back seat rises above 95° F, or if the child is left behind in the vehicle regardless of the temperature, providing peace of mind for parents.
Another potential hazard is children unbuckling their car seat harness while the car is in motion. It is possible that a young child will unbuckle their own car seat chest clip. Not only is an unbuckled child no longer safe in a crash, but crashes can be caused by a driver distracted by a child unbuckling their chest clip in the back seat. SensorSafe will send an audible alert to your phone in a scenario where your child is able to unbuckle the car seat chest clip. This allows the driver to carefully pull over and reconnect the chest clip, ensuring that it is properly secured in case of a crash.
It is also worth mentioning here that the American Academy of Pediatrics advises that babies should not be in a car seat or lie in a fixed position for longer than two hours at a time. This is due to the continued development of their musculo-skeletal system and spine, as well as their arm, back, and neck muscles. During long car trips, try stopping once every two hours to give your little one a break from the journey/car seat. Your SensorSafe will remind you!
