Singapore’s Manufacturing Sector Gets Innovation Boost With Digital Roadmap

Manufacturing companies in Singapore are set to get an innovation boost with a digital roadmap that will launch soon. Agreements have also been signed to better support their digital transformation; one of four key pillars laid out by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat at the opening of the Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific event.

Smart supply chains that are less prone to disruptions and secure machines that can stand up against cyber security threats, these are what Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister says manufacturers must have, as they tap the potential of the fourth industrial revolution.

“We must better understand the forces of change. If we can master the four factors; smart supply chains, sustainable production, swift innovation, and secure machines, we will be able to ride the wave of industry 4.0,” said Mr. Heng.

He also added that tech will not only play a key role in helping companies deal with business risks, it can also help them overcome supply chain disruptions amid the pandemic.

To this end, several companies are partnering to digitally transform the manufacturing industry, among them are Sembcorp and Gallant Venture. Agencies like A*star are also pumping in resources to drive transformation. An engineering roadmap for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) will also be launched soon.

Mr. Heng adds that it is important that firms keep their carbon emissions in check. And JTC Corporation aims to support their green journey as a champion of sustainable industrial development.

“Our advanced manufacturing hub in Singapore, the Jurong Innovation district, also has the highest sustainability standards for buildings in Singapore. We are expanding the ecosystem in this district to create a more conducive environment for testbeds of new sustainable solutions for the advanced manufacturing sector,” said Mr. Heng.
