The Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS) is a week-long event that is taking place this week in Cap-Haitien, July 3 – 8. The summit is an opportunity to facilitate and spark new ideas for the Haitian tourism sector. Long known as the Pearl of the Antilles, Haiti has struggled to build its tourism industry largely due to a lack of essential infrastructure and resources that the tourism and hospitality industry rely on. This summit helps bring the business community together to inspire collaboration, spur interest, and attract strategic investments in the Haitian tourism sector in order to support its sustainable growth and share the beauty of Haiti with the world.

The summit kicked off with the opening of the TIS Market at the
OGDNH location in Northern Haiti. The Market served as a platform for local entrepreneurs, creators and businesses to exhibit their products and services to a broader audience. Members of SOIL’s EkoLakay team set up a booth at the market to share information about our sanitation service, toilets, and compost to the wide audience of summit attendees. Visitors to our table were able to check out an EkoLakay toilet, see samples of our rich, organic compost, and take away literature about our household service and our event rental service and how to sign up for it.

The market included a wide range of vendors, highlighting the diversity and creativity of local Haitian businesses. By providing this space for local businesses and individuals to present their innovations, the market hopes to support economic growth and foster a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Northern Haiti.

The summit also featured several days of panel discussions, presentations and speakers who shared their knowledge and experience on topics surrounding the tourism, hospitality, and entertainment industries. And no conference would be complete without an array of networking opportunities including a cocktail reception, several concerts, and a comedy show.

SOIL’s EkoMobil rental toilets were also in use at the Summit’s events which, in addition to providing a dignified sanitation solution for attendees, also showcased the practical benefits of our service: no running water required, safely managed waste and a compost end product. We are always thrilled to be able to have another opportunity to provide our services to the public!

Recently, the Tourism Innovation Summit announced an exciting five year partnership with OGDNH that will combine the two groups’ expertise in hospitality, tourism and innovation to help facilitate a robust tourism industry in Haiti.

During these difficult times in Haiti we’re proud to be a part of continued local efforts that encourage active engagement and participation of the Haitian people to optimize their existing resources and systems and explore innovative ideas and solutions in order to showcase the best of Haiti’s culture and natural beauty.
